Kiyoshi Yamazaki
Research Associate

Mr. Yamazaki earned an undergraduate degree from Nihon University in Japan. He focused his study on people-centered development and sustainable development throughout the world. In January 2001, he was awarded a school sponsored exchange program and spent one year in the USA as a school representative. In March 2003, he completed his bachelor's thesis titled "International Development Aid in the 21st Century" and received a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations.

After graduation, he worked for an architecture firm in Shizuoka, Japan developing construction management skills and computer technology skills such as Web development and 3D modeling.

In September 2004, he returned to the USA and enrolled in the Master of Urban Planning program at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo, NY. In 2005, he was awarded the Jamal Fellowship for Excellence in International Planning. In May 2006, he completed his master's thesis titled "Main Street Transit Corridor Study: Challenges and Potential to Build a Sustainable and Livable Region" and received a Master of Urban Planning with specializations in Urban Design and GIS & Planning Technologies.

After the graduation, he worked as a research assistant at the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) in Amherst, NY, developing a queriable 3D GIS model of the City of Buffalo for the 3D Buffalo Project.

Mr. Yamazaki joined the ESC in September 2006. Currently he develops 3D real-time simulation models using applications such as ArcGIS, Sketch Up, AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max. He also assists with visual impact analyses and spatial analyses using GIS.
