Real-time Visualization versus Animation

For urban simulation, the ESC typically uses "real-time" 3D visualization rather than rendered animations. What is the difference and why do we favor "real-time"?

Dynamic Viewshed Analysis

This animation demonstrated the concept of "Seeing is Perceiving". As an imaginary person walks around the site, what he sees of the cathedral is illuminated. What he perceieves is the sum of all of these glimpses.
